Free royalty estimate

How much publishing money are your songs owed?

Every stream of a song you wrote earns publishing royalties: mechanicals and performance royalties, separate from what your distributor pays you. Most independent songwriters never collect all of it. See a rough estimate in under a minute, for all your songs together or song by song with your share of each.

How this estimate works

Streaming services don't publish stream counts per song, so the estimate starts from the streams you enter. We then apply industry averages:

  • Publishing royalties of about $0.0006–$0.0011 per stream worldwide (mechanical and performance, songwriter and publisher shares), multiplied by your share of the songwriting.
  • About 50% of that is mechanical; performance income is split 50/50 between writer and publisher.
  • Song by song, each song uses its own streams and your share of it, and the totals add the songs up. Producers earn publishing only on songs they helped write.
  • How much typically goes uncollected depends on your setup today. These are rules of thumb, not data about you.
  • Many societies hold unidentified royalties for about 3 years before paying them out to others, so older money may no longer be claimable.
  • Catalog value uses 6–10× yearly publishing income, a common range for small independent catalogs. Real offers depend on age, consistency and genre.

This is a rough guide, not a statement or a guarantee of payment. Real royalties depend on the countries, services and deals involved. Once you register, your dashboard shows only what's actually collected.
